If you are applying to study at a university in the UK but you will be under the age of 18 when you start, most universities will require you to have an appointed guardian based in the UK.
Why do I need a guardian?
Although you may already feel like an adult, especially if you are applying to universities in another country, you are still classed as a ‘child’ under British law. Therefore, most universities ask for the details of an appointed guardian who will be responsible for the student and that they can contact in case of emergencies.
When do I need to choose a guardian?
Most universities will accept applications without the guardian details and will only ask for them once the student has been offered a place. However, some universities (for example, UCL) request guardianship information before they will accept an application.
What services are included?
The UKG University Guardianship package meets university and visa regulations and we will provide you with any official documents needed. You will be assigned a dedicated Guardianship Coordinator and given a phone number which is available 24/7 in cases of emergency. You will also be eligible for a free university placement service in case you decide to change to a different university (depending on individual circumstances).
How much does University Guardianship cost?
The UKG University Guardianship package is just 190 GBP per term or 545 GBP for an academic year (plus a 45 GBP registration fee). You only need to pay for the length of time until you turn 18 (for example, if you start your course in September and turn 18 in November, you only need to pay for one term).
How do I apply for a University Guardianship package?
The easiest way to apply is by filling in an online University Guardianship Booking Form and sending a copy of your passport to service@ukguardianship.com. We will contact you within one working day and send you an invoice. As soon as the invoice has been paid, we will fill in any necessary documents for you. The entire process can be done very quickly (within one day) if you have been given a deadline by the university.
What happens if I don’t get accepted into the university?
If you have paid for a UKG University Guardianship package but do not get accepted into your first choice, the package can be transferred to another university with no extra fees to pay.
